As March comes to an end, the Republic of Moldova enters the warm season, a period marked by an increase in the frequency of storms and atmospheric electrical discharges. In this context, lightning protection becomes a priority, and the application of international standards in this field plays a crucial role in mitigating risks for people, infrastructure, and material assets.
The Institute for Standardization of Moldova (ISM) promotes the implementation of European and international standards aimed at enhancing the safety of lightning protection systems. Among these, the SM EN IEC 62305-1:2025 standard establishes technical requirements for the design, installation, and maintenance of protection systems, significantly reducing the risk of fires, technical failures, or human casualties caused by atmospheric discharges.
ISM encourages all stakeholders – authorities, businesses, and the general public – to pay close attention to lightning protection measures and to adopt solutions based on internationally recognized standards. For more information about applicable standards and their implementation, interested parties can contact the Institute for Standardization of Moldova or visit the official website www.standard.md.
