The Institute for Standardization of Moldova (ISM) organized the roundtable “Challenges in the Production and Quality Assessment of Canned Foods”, an event designed to strengthen dialogue between producers, experts, and institutions responsible for food safety, with the goal of improving the quality and compliance of canned products in the Republic of Moldova.

The event was opened by Ana Ghețivu, ISM Director, who emphasized the importance of strengthening the capacities of local producers and the role of standards in ensuring food safety and quality on both the domestic and international markets.

The agenda of the roundtable included presentations delivered by representatives of key institutions in the field:

  • Elena Pîrgari, scientific researcher at the National Institute of Applied Research in Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine, outlined the technological challenges in canned food production and the need for horizontal normative documents regulating production and control.
  • Stella Blîndu, Head of the Food Industry Department at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, presented the legal framework applicable to producers and the mandatory compliance requirements.
  • Marina Dintiu, Head of the Department for Food Safety of Non-Animal Origin at ANSA, discussed the food safety requirements that must be observed in the canning industry and the requirements for labeling.
  • Diana Curchi, Deputy Director of the National Centre for Animal, Plant and Food Safety, addressed methods for determining safety indicators of canned products and explained the alignment between national normative and legislative documents and those of the European Union.
  • Rodica Siloci, standardization expert at ISM, spoke about the need for more active participation in the development of standards within technical committees.

At the end of the event, participants took part in an interactive Q&A session, where practical aspects related to regulations, safety, and quality assessment tools were clarified.
