The closing ceremony of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics took place on Sunday evening, 22 February 2026, at the Verona Olympic Arena, marking the end of 16 days of competition and the awarding of 116 Olympic titles. Behind the remarkable sporting performances were European standards that ensured athlete safety, smooth organization of the events, and spectator comfort.

Disciplines such as ice hockey, luge, bobsleigh, alpine skiing, and snowboarding were protected by standards including EN ISO 10256, EN 13484, EN 13781, EN 1077, and EN ISO 20320, providing safe equipment for the head, body, eyes, and wrists. Standards EN 12193 and the EN 13200 series contributed to competition infrastructure and a safe spectator experience, while EN 15638 and EN 342 protected winter sports enthusiasts outside the Olympic venues.

The Institute for Standardization of Moldova (ISM) promotes the implementation of these standards, contributing to increased safety, quality, and performance in all fields, including sports.

Standards for increasing safety, quality, and performance in all areas, including sports, can be purchased from the ISM online store – https://shop.standard.md.
