The creation of TC 79 represents a strategic step in strengthening the standardization framework in one of the most important sectors of the Republic of Moldova’s economy – agri-food and horticulture. The new committee will ensure a structured and coherent approach, based on specialized working groups in relevant subfields, including:
-
Food products of animal origin;
-
Viticultural and wine products;
-
Horticultural products;
-
Fruits, vegetables, and their derivatives;
-
Cereals and cereal-based products.
This initiative follows a comprehensive analysis conducted by ISM on the activity of existing technical committees, which highlighted the need to increase representativeness, improve process efficiency, and align with European practices. The new structure enables better involvement of all stakeholders – public authorities, academia, producers, industry associations, and independent experts.
The launch event of the reorganization process in the agri-food sector, held on March 12, 2026, brought together 32 sector representatives, confirming the interest and commitment to developing a modern, participatory, and results-oriented standardization system.
The importance of TC 79 is significant, considering the role of standards in:
-
ensuring the quality and safety of agri-food products;
-
increasing the competitiveness of domestic producers;
-
facilitating access to external markets, including the European Union market;
-
supporting innovation and the transfer of international best practices.
The establishment of this committee is part of a broader reform process of the national standardization system, implemented in stages throughout 2026, with the objective of achieving full alignment with European and international requirements. By the end of the year, all technical committees will be reorganized according to the new structure.
