The Institute for Standardization of Moldova (ISM) marked World Standards Day
with an event dedicated to the role of standards in the energy transition,
agricultural modernization and the economic development of the Republic of
Moldova.
The event brought together 70 participants representing public authorities, the
business community, sectoral associations and academia, providing a platform for
dialogue on the contribution of standardization to competitiveness and European
economic integration. This year’s event was held under the international theme
“Shared vision for a better world”, with a focus on Sustainable Development Goal
7 – Affordable and Clean Energy.
Presentations on ISM’s achievements and outlook for 2026 addressed the
digitalization of standardization activities, the services provided by ISM, and the
new approach to the work of technical standardization committees.
The first panel, dedicated to affordable and clean energy, explored the priorities of
the Republic of Moldova’s energy transition, energy efficiency, and the
construction sector’s capacity to apply European standards in practical projects.
The second panel, “Standards in Agriculture: From Farm to Consumer”,
highlighted the role of standards in modernizing and improving the
competitiveness of the agricultural sector, ensuring the quality and safety of agri-
food products, and supporting investment in agriculture.
The event also featured the presentation of the “Students – The Future of
Standardization” programme, an initiative through which ISM promotes young
people’s awareness of standardization and its relevance to their future careers. The
event also included an awards ceremony for participants in the essay and scientific
research competition, “Standards That Shape My Profession”.
As the institution responsible for coordinating and developing standardization in
the Republic of Moldova, ISM plays an essential role in connecting the national
economy with European and international practices and requirements. By
promoting and adopting standards, ISM contributes to strengthening the quality,
safety and competitiveness of products and services, supporting economic
modernization and the country’s European path.
