A new draft law will more strictly regulate the labeling of food products containing trans fatty acids, which are considered the most harmful because they raise the level of “bad” cholesterol in the body, with the effect of increasing the incidence of cardiovascular and oncological diseases.

Trans fatty acids are used in the food industry because they extend the shelf life of the product, give it an attractive appearance and prolong its freshness, and the foods in which an increased percentage of trans fatty acids are found are: margarine, cream, vegetable cream, biscuits, cookies, fries, doughnuts, frozen semi-prepared products, etc.

The standards for labeling food products containing trans fatty acids can be purchased from the online store of the Institute for Standardization of Moldova (ISM) – https://shop.standard.md/
