Standards are considered scientific works and are protected by national copyright and related rights legislation.

The Republic of Moldova, through the Institute for Standardization of Moldova (ISM), becoming a member of the European and international standardization institutions, assumed certain rights, but also obligations.

One of these obligations is copyright protection of standards.

The ISM policy on the protection of copyright on standards is not aimed at identifying those who infringe copyright on standards and punishing them, but at identifying and transmitting messages so that current users of standards, but also the younger generation, in their capacity as users of standards futures, to be aware of the need to respect the copyright on the standards, to ensure the valorization of this right of the national standardization body, to be aware of the need for correction in case they have admitted the violation of the copyright on the standards by purchasing them.
